Using Job Descriptions to Create IEP goals such as a Landscaper/Groundskeeper from Fit4Work

https://fit4workpt.substack.com/p/using-job-descriptions-to-create

In our latest Fit4Work: Community of Practice monthly session, we gathered to tackle the real-world complexities of building robust vocational transition programs for youth with disabilities including aligning IEP goals with genuine community job requirements. We explored Jobs4All, created to help providers know what to work on that meets a student’s vocational aspiration. The job tasks are divided into 3 categories: personal, communication and physical.

How can you use this information?

  1. For a student with one of these job aspirations, have them complete the job description as a checklist.

  2. Share it with a teacher to inform their classroom instruction.

  3. Consider basing an inservice on the connection between Social Security Exertion Scales. [These were created from O*Net and Indeed.com job descriptions.], job descriptions, and student skills.

  4. Use a job description to guide IEP goal development.

Whatever you choose to do, be collaborative…and remember, it takes a village to be Fit4Work :)
