Identify a student’s current abilities
Identify the movement goal adapt the task
Adapt the equipment or environment
Modify an activity to make it easier
Extend an activity to progress the challenge
Create age-appropriate options for elem, middle and HS students
TRY THIS TOMORROW
Choose one student and one station.
Write down:
• What the student can currently do
• The movement goal
• One way to modify the activity
• One way to extend it after success
Then ask the student what equipment, support, or participation option feels most helpful.
PARAPROFESSIONAL TIP
Place the portable card directly at the station.
The supporting adult should be able to quickly identify:
• The activity’s purpose
• What assistance to provide
• How to make it easier
• How to progress the challenge
Clear directions improve consistency and reduce the need to stop and re-explain the station.
Thank you for the work you do to create meaningful movement opportunities for every student.
